Josh Setala, Nate Gilbreath and Alan Jones formed The Playground Trio during their years at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and they are thrilled to welcome pianist Michael Potter into the fold. Together, they explore original compositions and standard repertoire with open ears, daring improvisation, and a lighthearted spirit.
Pianist Michael Potter, who has recently returned to San Francisco by way of Japan, is a musical chameleon. He juxtaposes emotion and precision on the keys and always makes his bandmates shine. Jones is an in-demand bassist and Mr. Tipple’s regular, performing with the who’s-who of the San Francisco jazz scene almost every night. Gilbreath is a virtuosic trombonist living in Los Angeles, where he is a member of the next class at the celebrated Herbie Hancock Institute. Setala is a drummer based in New York City, who performs around the country with bands such as Ripple Æffect, Keefer & The Romance, Williams*, and Arissa.
